Climate Change & Environment
All business corporations have a collective responsibility to address climate change. At IPL, we have identified energy efficiency and reduction of emissions as one of the three focus areas in our sustainability strategy. To meet this challenge, and transition to a lower carbon future, we are developing a 3 Step Program across all our operations:
– Energy reduction programs
– Identify opportunities to generate
– Procure renewable power produce from solar, wind or biomass
To strengthen our sustainability ambitions, in 2018 we are also measuring the carbon footprint of our value chain, with a focus on our direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions (‘‘GHG’’), in accordance with the GHG Protocol. We will disclose these findings under the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for our 2017 emissions.
By having a greater understanding of our emissions under the CDP framework, we will seize the opportunity to develop an even wider range of innovative low carbon products to help further reduce the impacts of climate change.
We are committed to the highest standards of environmental management at all our manufacturing facilities, which proactively address the challenges of climate change. Half of our plants already hold the ISO 14000 environmental standard. By 2020, all our plants will be ISO accredited under this standard.
In addition, we have set the ambitious standard of achieving ‘zero to landfill’ status at all our facilities by 2022. We have already achieved this standard in the UK.
